312 Journey - Chapter 03 - Isle of Purbeck

Chapter 03 takes us to Isle of Purbeck.

Played in May 2026, Isle of Purbeck quickly became one of the biggest surprises of our journey. We'd heard plenty of good things before arriving, but nothing quite prepares you for the experience waiting on the first tee. From the welcome in the clubhouse to the final putt, every part of the day felt genuine, relaxed and unforgettable.

The first thing that captures your attention is the setting.

Perched high above the Dorset coastline, the views are simply breathtaking. Looking out across Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and the Purbeck Hills, there are moments where it's difficult to focus on the next shot because the scenery keeps stealing your attention. On a clear day, it's one of those golf courses where you find yourself stopping between holes simply to take it all in.

Out on the course, the golf is every bit as impressive.

Although technically an inland course, Isle of Purbeck has a links feel that is difficult to describe until you've played it. Firm-running fairways, natural undulations and exposed holes create the sensation of true links golf, while the elevated setting gives every hole its own incredible backdrop. It feels rugged in all the right ways, allowing the landscape to dictate the golf rather than the other way around.

What makes Isle of Purbeck so special is its character.

Every hole has its own personality. Some demand precision, others invite you to be aggressive, but throughout the round the course keeps asking different questions. There are no filler holes and no stretches where your attention drifts. Instead, the layout flows naturally across the hillside, delivering one memorable view after another.

The scenery never becomes ordinary.

With every change in direction comes another panorama across the Dorset coast. Whether you're looking towards the harbour, across rolling heathland or back over the holes you've already played, it's impossible not to appreciate just how unique this place is. It's the kind of course where your camera spends almost as much time out as your driver.

The scorecard was never really the focus. What stayed with us was the course itself. The views from almost every hole, the variety of the layout and the feeling that every part of the property had something different to offer made it a round we'll be talking about for a long time.

Away from the golf, the hospitality deserves just as much recognition. Every member of staff made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived, creating the sort of atmosphere that makes you want to stay long after the round has finished. It's easy to see why so many golfers speak so highly of the club. Great courses leave an impression, but great people make you want to come back.

For LOFT 312, Isle of Purbeck represents exactly why the 312 Journey exists. To discover places that surprise you. Places that remind you golf isn't only about scorecards or yardages, but about where the game can take you and the memories made along the way.

Some courses impress you with immaculate conditioning.

Some impress you with championship pedigree.

Isle of Purbeck impresses you with something much harder to create.

A sense of place.

Spectacular views. Incredible hospitality. Golf you'll remember for a very long time.

Chapter 03 complete.
